About the Artist

Born Roberto Alejandro, 

In New York, raised in the Bronx, moved to Southern California for his ‘wonder years’ and then moved to the  San Francisco Bay area for his adult years. ‘The Silicone Valley years.’

Robert Alexander’s creative arts began as a young boy, growing up in Southern California, learning how to tie knots in his early Boy Scouting days.

It was later, as an Art student, that his creativity was sparked to produce 3-dimensional macrame’ artwork. With one of his pieces being selected for display in an exhibit in the L.A. Museum of Art. Another piece was featured in a ‘Sunset Magazine’ article.

The 1st generation of Macrame’ Swagg  was produced in the 1970’s. Made primarily of Hemp-Jute.

The 2nd generation  of Macrame-Swagg was inspired by the birth of my third child ‘Amelia Joy’. We needed a nursery lamp, for our new baby girl. I came across a D.Y.I. macrame’ project for a nursery room lighted carousel,  complete with porcelin horses. Produced  in the mid 1980’s. These were made of Colorful 4mm Poly-cord in addtion to natural Hemp-Jute.
